About the Author
C.C. D’Armand writes grounded, cinematic historical fiction set in the turbulent world of the 16th-century Mediterranean. His debut series, The Legend of Barbarossa, follows two brothers caught between empires as they rise from betrayal to command the dominant naval power of their age.
The series draws inspiration from time spent in the eastern Aegean, including a visit to the remote cave that anchors much of the story. D’Armand brings a storyteller’s eye and a deep respect for historical detail to his work, blending high-stakes adventure with sharp character drama.
D’Armand writes under a pen name in honor of his grandfather, Commodore Columbus Dearman, who served his country in the United States Navy. The name carries forward a legacy of service and storytelling.
Before turning to fiction, D’Armand built a career in strategic storytelling and marketing. He brings that same focus on clear narrative and emotional impact to his novels.
Why This Story
The Legend of Barbarossa grew out of time spent sailing and exploring the islands of the eastern Aegean. Standing in the actual cave that inspired the first book made it clear there was a larger story worth telling, one that blended real history with high-stakes, character-driven adventure.
Rather than write a traditional historical novel, D’Armand chose to create a cinematic series that captures the danger, ambition, and moral complexity of the period while staying grounded in the human cost of power and survival.
